The President H.E Dr Hage Geingob recently visited the Divundu Correctional Facility to acknowledge the positive impact of its garden project.
The garden plays a crucial role in producing food for both the local community and the facility’s inmates.
The Namibian Correctional Services said even though the garden is not officially a green scheme facility produced maize meal and bread flour which are consumed by offenders in correctional facilities across the country.
“The facility also supplies its produce to some Namibian Police holding cells and in addition to support food security, the facility provides inmates with valuable agricultural skills, contribution to their rehabilitation,” they added.
They said this is why the facility is referred to as the ‘bread basket’ of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.
Mbumba was accompanied by Governor Bonifatius Wakuduma and was guided by Deputy Commissioner General Sam Shaalulange and Assistant Commissioner, Fillipus Ikevali.
