2024-10-15 21:30:14
BERNAMA – Malaysia’s car market is now witnessing a gradual shift in interest towards electric vehicles (EVs), according to Ernst and Young’s (EY) fifth annual EY Global Mobility Consumer Index. In a statement yesterday, EY said that the index revealed that 25 per cent of Malaysians are interested in buying an EV despite slow global demand, driven by rising fuel costs and environmental considerations. The report surveyed 19,000 respondents from 28 countries, including Malaysia. “Nearly 40 per cent of Malaysians said they would prefer to buy an internal combustion engine, and a hybrid car next (20 per cent). “To unlock the next phase of growth for full EVs will require car brands to appeal to younger, more cost-conscious, and motivated consumers to make the switch due to rising fuel costs (43 per cent), environmental impact (35 per cent) and the variety of EVs being offered (27 per cent),” said EY....

Rising K-pop idols are expected to adhere to their powerful agency’s behaviour and appearance guidelines, with many stars describing receiving extreme backlash from fans over perceived mistakes in their personal lives, for example dating. Hanni, 20, who is Vietnamese-Australian, testified that she overheard a manager of another idol group linked to her parent agency instructing members of another girl group to spurn her. Brunei, Borneo Bulletin, Inglês - The dark side of social media
2024-10-15 01:48:14
ANN/THE STAR – Social media has woven itself into the fabric of our daily lives, allowing us to stay connected with friends and acquaintances worldwide. However, it also has a darker side, often amplifying our worst instincts and intensifying feelings of anger and frustration. The spread of moral outrage, emotional contagion, and harmful behaviours like name-calling and rage-posting all contribute to creating a toxic and harmful online atmosphere. These platforms, by rewarding posts that express moral outrage with more likes and engagement, encourage users to voice increasingly strong reactions over time. The increased number of likes and shares “teach” people to be angrier. In addition, these “rewards” also tend to have a great effect on users’ respective political persuasions. Moral outrage is justifiable anger, disgust or frustration in response to a perceived injustice; however, this emotion can be misplaced if the person is not well-informed. Meanwhile, the term “emotional contagion”...

Brunei, Borneo Bulletin, Inglês - England deserve ‘world class’ coach: Carsley
2024-10-14 13:47:14
AFP – Lee Carsley admitted England deserve a “world class coach” with a winning habit after Sunday’s 3-1 victory against Finland left the interim manager’s future unresolved. Coming just days after England’s shock 2-1 defeat against Greece at Wembley, Carsley could not afford another setback in the Nations League trip to Helsinki. Carsley had been heavily criticised for playing five attacking midfielders and no recognised striker against Greece and he selected a more conventional line-up this time. England were still far from impressive for long periods, but they mustered enough quality to grind out a third win in four games since Carsley replaced Gareth Southgate. Jack Grealish opened the scoring in the first half and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s superb free-kick doubled the lead after the interval before Declan Rice’s tap-in wrapped up the points. It was another day of mixed messages both on and off the pitch for England as the...

KOTA KINABALU (Bernama) – The Sabah government hopes that the upcoming Budget 2025 will emphasise on developing community tourism and expanding tourism centres in the state.   Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the ministry also hoped that the budget will provide incentives to boost community-based tourism, which would benefit local communities and enhance the state’s appeal to both domestic and international visitors.   “While we continue to attract foreign tourists, it is equally important to promote local tourism, particularly among the people of Sabah who may not be fully aware of the unique destinations within the state,” she told Bernama.   Liew said the budget also needs to encourage Malaysians to explore their own country, stressing that Sabah offers a wealth of natural beauty and cultural experiences that should be enjoyed by locals as well as foreign visitors.   “I want to see not only...
