The Municipality of Swakopmund has taken a significant step to global collaboration by signing a strategic cooperation agreement with Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, China.
This partnership aligns with the Belt and Road Initiative and focuses on six key areas of cooperation. These are urban planning and management, infrastructure development, water and energy projects, ecological restoration, citizen and tourist safety, and educational exchange programmes.
“This partnership promises to accelerate local development, empower SMEs, and strengthen Swakopmund’s position as a thriving, innovative city. Together we look forward to a future of shared prosperity,” the municipality stated.
They said both cities, uniquely positioned between natural wonders, share a vision for cultural preservation, sustainable growth, and innovative urban development.
“Swakopmund, known as the Centre of Adventure, aligns perfectly with Fuzhou, the Expo Capital of Jiangxi Province, famed for its cultural heritage and environmental projects,” they emphasised.
During the week of 24 to 30 September, a Swakopmund delegation including Mayor Her Worship Dina Namubes, Chairperson Blasius! Goraseb and Chief Executive Alfeus Benjamin visited Fozhou and Nanchang to strengthen ties and explore key areas of cooperation.
They attended the official opening of the Tang Xianzu International Theatre Exchange Month and visited crucial sites like the Waste Treatment Plant, Smart Urban Management Centre, and Shushan Water Conservation Project.
