Five weeks after the Maldives’ deadliest diving incident, the investigations have narrowed to a camera.
Rome prosecutors have sent Malé a formal request for the equipment the five Italian divers carried into Devana Kandu, including the GoPro recovered from inside the cave, which may show what happened at 60 metres. The Finnish divers who brought the bodies out have begun to speak: no guideline laid, recreational tanks at depth, four divers found together in a dead-end passage.
Asked about the status of the government’s inquiry, the rogatory and the MNDF’s review of the dive that killed Sergeant First Class Mohamed Mahudhee, the President’s Office declined to provide updates, saying all matters were related to investigations.
