Fellajuah Monrovia, July 2, 2026 – The Rubber Planters Association of Liberia (RPAL) has endorsed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s decision to ban the export of unprocessed natural rubber, describing the policy as a major step toward expanding domestic processing, creating jobs, and improving the livelihoods of thousands of rubber farmers. The association, which represents smallholder rubber farmers across the country, said Executive Order No. 166 marks a significant shift in Liberia’s rubber industry by requiring more natural rubber to be processed locally before export. Issued on June 26, the Executive Order prohibits the export of unprocessed natural rubber effective July 1. The ban covers raw latex, cup lump, bark scrap, and other unprocessed rubber products, while allowing the continued export of processed products, including Technically Specified Rubber (TSR), ribbed smoked sheets, and latex concentrate. Oman recently delivered a proposal to the US and other allies on the future of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a regional diplomat and a US source familiar with the matter. The regional diplomat said the proposal, which has not been finalized, outlines a plan for shipping companies to pay service fees to use the strait, but they would not be called tolls. The diplomat did not elaborate on the difference between a service fee and a toll. Significant disagreements remain over the proposal, the diplomat added, noting it is expected to be one of the topics discussed in Doha this week. The clock is ticking towards the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Only twenty-five (25) days from this day, Sunday 28th June 2026, remain. Ahead of the games, Commonwealth Sport Botswana, under the auspices of Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC), has unveiled a 47-member delegation to represent the country. The delegation is composed of 25 athletes and 22 officials were announced by the Minister of Sport and Arts Jacob Kelebeng this past Friday. This athlete representation is less than that which was sent to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
