Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is hopeful of returning to action for Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon next week after suffering a groin injury in Friday’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. The Nigerian forward was substituted in the 33rd minute after picking up the injury, but he has downplayed concerns over his fitness and is targeting a return against the Portuguese side if he is deemed fit by the club’s medical and coaching staff. “I have nothing, I didn’t want to risk myself. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field,” Osimhen said. Osimhen had earlier put Galatasaray ahead with a fine strike into the top corner after being set up by Lucas Torreira, before discomfort forced him off, with Barış Alper Yılmaz taking his place. Galatasaray subsequently confirmed that strain and pain...

Play Replay Close highlight Stop listening ENGLISH MBABANE – Government projects valued at about E600 million have stalled amid slow cash flow. This has affected contractors, workers and service delivery across the country. The money had been approved for the projects but it apparently exists on paper. Contracts have been awarded but the budget does not have money to finance the projects.  It must be said that work had started on most of them. However, in projects spread across government, the flow of money has not kept pace with the work that was expected to be done. The result is a growing backlog of unfinished projects, contractors waiting for payment and workers who depend on those contractors for their livelihoods finding themselves without income. The projects affected include schools, roads, water infrastructure and livestock dipping tanks. The Microprojects Programme undertakes dipping tank projects on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture,...

By Amos Tayebwa For Uganda’s growing army of young developers, the journey from an idea to a digital product used by thousands can be long, expensive and uncertain. Across the country, innovators are developing solutions in agriculture, transport, finance, health and commerce. Startups such as SafeBoda, Numida, Emata and XENO have demonstrated the potential of home-grown technology. But having a good idea is only the beginning. For many young entrepreneurs, the bigger challenge is turning code into a commercially viable business. Access to payment systems, technical support, customers and digital skills can determine whether a promising prototype remains an idea or becomes a sustainable enterprise. This is where MTN and MTN MoMo Uganda are increasingly playing a role, providing platforms that help innovators move from development to commercialisation. At the centre of this opportunity is the MTN Mobile Money Open API platform. Launched first in Uganda in November 2018, the...

The Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) recently concluded its 2026 Leadership Development Program (LDP) in Swakopmund, equipping 24 scholars and alumni from nine African nations with practical skills to address the continent’s most pressing challenges. Held from 17 to 20 August, the four-day intensive workshop brought together dynamic young leaders for practical leadership training, cross-border peer exchange, and cultural immersion along Namibia’s central coast. Unlike traditional academic seminars, the program focused on action-oriented leadership. Participants engaged in practical exercises designed to enhance self-awareness, analyze complex political and social systems, navigate competing stakeholder interests, and build collaborative solutions tailored to African contexts. Speaking on the impact of the initiative, Dr Nkosana Moyo, Founder and CEO of MINDS, emphasized that academic access alone is not enough to drive continental growth. “A scholarship can open the door to a university, but Africa also needs graduates who can lead across differences and turn...

…as association finally elects new committee Leemisa Thuseho THE Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) has finally elected a new executive committee after years of struggling to hold its elective annual general meeting. The association held its elections over the weekend, with retired army Brigadier General Naha Kolisang being elected president unopposed. He succeeds former president, Moorosana Nkesi, whose term ended in 2020. He had been elected in 2017. Since then, the association has struggled to elect a new committee. The first setback came with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which, among other restrictions, halted sporting activities and prevented large gatherings. After the pandemic subsided, attempts to hold elections were again dogged by controversy, including disputes over the good standing and eligibility of some clubs to participate in elections. The disagreements eventually spilled into the courts, further delaying the process. With no immediate solution in sight, the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) proposed the establishment...
