Lesego Sebutana, 41, will temporarily swap his white nurses’ uniform for yellow prison robes after he was remanded in custody by Molepolole Magistrates Court this week. Sebutana is said to have lost his cool early on Friday (15 May) morning, his tirade reportedly sparked by his suspicions that his 30-year-old lover was cheating on him. “Ke tsile go go bolaya ke bo ke bolaya batho ba ko ga lona ke bo ke le tshubela mo ntlong, (I am going to kill you and kill your family and burn you inside the house),” are the supposed words that landed the nurse in jail. According to Lekgwapheng Assistant Superintendent Akimo Mlazie, the complainant reported the matter at around 0300 hrs. “We...

The lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial in the National Assembly, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has allayed fear of implosion in the All Progressives Congress, calling on members of the party to support President Bola Tinubu in the presidential primary election. Fadeyi, who made this known in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Friday, had lost APC Senatorial primary for 2027 ticket to Mr. Adekunle Adegoke (SAN) on Monday. The defeat made him the only lawmaker, out of five elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in 2023, but defected to APC in 2025, that failed to get re-election ticket on the platform of the new party. Ásia, Deutsche Welle, Inglês - South Africa xenophobia response under fire
2026-05-22 12:31:07
As anti-foreigner tensions resurface in parts of South Africa, critics are questioning whether the government’s response to xenophobia is working. South Africa has faced repeated outbreaks of violence targeting migrants from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Ghana and Zambia. Easlier this month, Nigeria summoned South Africa’s acting high commissioner, citing growing anti-African migrant protests. More than 60 people were killed in anti-immigrant riots in 2008, while similar unrest resurfaced in 2015 and 2016. Armed mobs attacked foreign-owned businesses around the city of Johannesburg in 2019, leaving at least 12 people dead — ten of them South African citizens. Migration blamed for deeper crises The violence is often linked to frustrations over unemployment, crime, overcrowded services and poor living conditions — grievances that are frequently redirected toward migrants. Supporters of Operation Dudula say it demands immigration enforcement, while critics accuse it of fueling xenophobic sentimentImage: Mohamed Shiraaz/dpa/picture alliance However, Loren...
