Cattle marketing remained muted in May, declining by 3.11% year-on-year and 22.59% month-on-month, according to the beef market watch recently published by the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia. The Board reported that marketing decreased to 17,965, a decline of both 17.1% year-on-year and 23.2% month-on-month. This decline was primarily due to a 13.25% reduction in total slaughter compared to the previous year and a 13.62% decrease compared to the previous month. The drop in total slaughter was largely influenced by a significant decline in B- and C-class abattoir throughput, which fell by 68.52% year-on-year and 39.47% month-on-month. In contrast, A-class export abattoir slaughter increased by 11.63% year-on-year while live exports rose by 34.76% year-on-year and 19.62% month-on-month, indicating continued strength in export-oriented marketing channels.
