Presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, Donald Duke, has likened opposition parties supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid to political parties that backed former military ruler Sani Abacha’s transition programme. Duke, a former Cross River State governor made the comparison during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, where he criticised some opposition parties for supporting Tinubu despite belonging to the opposition. He recalled the expression “five leprous fingers”, a phrase used in Nigeria’s political history to describe the five political parties registered under Abacha’s military regime in the 1990s. “Before I go into that, you know, you talked about the opposition, some of the opposition parties, um, supporting the president. YUMBE, Uganda — Stanbic Bank Uganda has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment worth UGX 30 million to Ikafe Police Training School in Yumbe District, strengthening the school’s capacity to equip police recruits with digital skills needed for modern, technology-driven policing. The countdown was launched at the Miatta Civic Centre in Freetown, bringing together Statistics Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, development partners, political representatives and the media to assess preparations ahead of Census Night on 1 December. Nationwide enumeration will begin on 2 December. The census is expected to provide critical demographic data to guide national planning, resource allocation and public investment in education, healthcare, housing, infrastructure and social protection. Khartoum (SUNA) — African Union Chairperson and President of Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye has invited the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee to visit his country. Burundi’s Ambassador, Omar Ntzimbiri, conveyed the invitation to the committee during a meeting with its members at the committee’s headquarters in Khartoum on Tuesday. Osman Mirghani, the official spokesperson for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee, announced that the committee had accepted the invitation from Ndayishimiye to visit Burundi. The visit is part of efforts to support dialogue and consultations among Sudanese parties to reach solutions to the current crisis. Mirghani said the initiative forms part of the African Union chairperson’s efforts to promote understanding among the various Sudanese parties.
