The Plateau State Commissioner for Transportation, Davou Jatau, has asked members of the All Progressives Congress in the state to shun anti-party activities, saying such actions will only weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The commissioner stated this on Monday when he led a team of government appointees from the Jos South Local Government Area on a familiarisation visit to the APC wards and districts in the council area. He urged party members to rally behind the policies and programmes of both the federal and state governments, pointing out what he described as visible achievements recorded by President Bola Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The commissioner also called on party executives at ward, local government and state levels to mobilise members and ensure that internal disputes are resolved through appropriate party channels. “Grievances should be channelled properly. The doors of the party are open for dialogue. But...

The Wall Street Journal reported that restricted Western goods are moving through Velana International Airport to Russia. The government says it is establishing whether that is accurate. Two questions need to be answered ahead of that one. The first is whether anyone could tell. Asked about the report on Saturday, the chief government spokesman wondered aloud how the state would know what kind of chip was inside a phone. The second is what law would apply if it could. Western sanctions on Russia are unilateral. Maldivian law works on UN Security Council designations, and there are none on Russia – a point Russia’s own embassy made to us when we asked for comment. This is also not the first time. A Maldivian freight forwarder lost its US export privileges in 2023, and Nikkei Asia reported that year that around 400,000 US-made semiconductors had reached Russia through the Maldives. Go Investment,...

Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu has moved to kill fresh social media reports claiming that Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma is critically ill, insisting the monarch is stable and only in Turkey for a routine medical review. The kingdom said Mumbere travelled to Turkey on the advice of his medical team for a follow-up related to treatment he previously received at the same facility. In a statement, kingdom officials urged his subjects and the public not to panic over the reports, stressing that there is “no cause for alarm.” “We wish to clarify that HM Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma is not critically ill, contrary to reports circulating on social media,” the kingdom said. According to kingdom spokesperson Geoffrey Kanyonyi, Mumbere left Uganda on August 27 and arrived in Turkey the following morning. The latest trip comes barely six months after the Rwenzururu monarch returned to Uganda following a lengthy stay abroad...

Sierra Leone Telegraph: 7 September 2026: A report coming out of the University of Lagos has examined the environmental effects of British colonial rule in Africa and has asked that this value be included in all reparations conversation. The report, titled CO2lonianism, Ecocide, Reparations, argues that the long-lasting ecological harm caused by British colonial rule on its former African colonies constitutes a separate and vast category of damage, distinct from the humanitarian harm of the slave trade, with a valuation that could exceed hundreds of trillions of dollars. The report’s lead author, Professor J. G. Nkem Onyekpe, PhD, Head of the Department of History and Strategic Studies at the University of Lagos stated that: “The report documents that valuation exercises of comparable ambition and scale have already been attempted successfully.”. He cited a peer-reviewed 2022 estimate that valued resources appropriated from the global South through unequal exchange at over $10...
