Bakashaba made the remarks while addressing stakeholders during Mbarara City’s budget conference, where he raised concerns about the resurgence of livestock theft and the destruction of public infrastructure. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat has officially launched the 2027 SADC Media Awards, inviting media practitioners and journalists across all 16 member states to submit entries. Established in 1996, the annual regional competition aims to promote regional integration, economic growth, and social development by recognizing excellence in journalism that highlights SADC initiatives, programmes, and bilateral milestones. The competition recognises journalists in four categories, namely photo, print, television, and radio journalism. The first prize winner in each of the categories will receive US$2,500, while the runner-ups will receive US$1,000. The winners will be announced during the opening ceremony of the 47th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in Zambia.
