JOHANNESBURG – “You will never know who is watching you, so I encourage you to give your all when you are on the field of play.”
These were the words of legendary Mbabane Highlanders and Kaizer Chiefs winger Abel ‘Chacklas’ Shongwe when advising the best players from the 2026 KFC Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation tournament.
The former Sihlangu star was addressing the players and sports teachers who excelled in the tournament during a dinner held at Southern Sun Hotel in Rosebank on Friday night.
Shongwe, who also owns a football academy in South Africa, urged the youngsters to respect their teachers and coaches and to take their education seriously.
He said they should always give everything once they cross the white line, because talent alone is not enough and an opportunity can come from anywhere.
The dinner was part of a series of activities for the top performers, who were on a learning tour at Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena.
The pupils met Kaizer Chiefs founder and chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung at Naturena.
By the time this report was compiled, the pupils, who were joined by KFC Eswatini Chief Executive Officer Nigel England, were en route to FNB Stadium to experience the Soweto derby.
