THE South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a manhunt for a Mosotho man, Tshidiso Chele (42), of Tsakholo in Mafeteng, who is wanted in connection with the murder of Tumelo Moejane (40) in Winnie Park, Bronville, in South Africa’s Free State province.
In a media statement issued on 29 July, the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Free State said Bronville police had identified Chele, also known as “Moshesha”, as a prime suspect in the murder investigation.
“On Saturday, 25 July 2026 police were summoned to a fighting incident in Winnie Park, Bronville. On arrival at the scene, they were pointed to an African male who was lying motionless in a pool of blood,” the statement reads.
“The victim was found with injuries on the head and chest. A knobkerrie and a sharp iron bar were found lying next to the victim. He was declared deceased on the scene by emergency medical services personnel. The deceased was identified by his family as Tumelo Moejane (40).”
Police allege Chele and Mr Moejane were involved in an argument that turned violent.
“According to information, the suspect and the deceased had an argument that escalated into a physical fight. The suspect then allegedly struck the deceased with a sharp iron bar on the head, fatally wounding him. He then allegedly fled the scene, leaving the deceased lying on the ground severely injured.”
The statement says Chele is believed that he would be able to assist police with their investigation.
