The Blues and The Reds battle for Orange They take pride in the colours of their home jerseys, which gave birth to monikers ‘The Blues’ and ‘The Reds’, but this Saturday they trade blows to be draped in an entirely different colour. The Orange FA Cup serves up one of local football’s fiercest rivalries as Township Rollers and Gaborone United lock horns in a high-stakes quarterfinal at the National Stadium. GU enter the tie with the richer pedigree in this competition, having lifted the FA Cup three times, while Rollers, despite their domestic success over the years, are chasing a first triumph in seven attempts. The Money Machine also dominated the derby this season, embarrassing their neighbours 3-1 and 4-0 as they romped to a 9 th league title. Far from satisfied, Coach Sean Conner and his players are hungry for more as they look to emulate the league/cup double...

Molepolole Magistrates’ Court is no stranger to disturbing cases, with murder, rape and violence depressingly common. This week, however, there was a sense of shock in the courtroom when a youth was charged with raping a 94-year-old woman. Kedibonye Mosarwa, 29, is accused of breaking into the elder’s house in the middle of the night, seemingly looking for money from a woman he apparently knew relatively well. It is alleged that after satisfying his greed, the Kotolaname native then satisfied his sexual desires. In a brief interview with The Voice, Lekgwapheng Station Commander, Mothosera Busang, revealed the incident occurred at Tsimane lands just after 2am on Saturday (2nd May) morning. “The elderly woman was sleeping with her three-year-old grandson. The victim woke up sensing someone moving around the house, and when the suspect heard the woman talking, he demanded some money,” explained the superintendent. Mosarwa reportedly told the old woman,...

Brown envelopes, brats and big appointments Another retired general has joined active politics, children of the rich are flaunting their wealth without a care in the world while journalists at a local radio station are bitter at losing their ‘brown envelopes’. There is no shortage of talking points this week as so much is happening on the political scene while those in the public domain are giving people plenty to gossip about too. For me, the most interesting story is that of journalists at CapitalkFM who were given US$1, 000 (P14, 000) each as ‘lunch money’ by controversial businessman, Wicknell Chivayo, only to be ordered to refuse the cash. Chivayo visited the radio station, a subsidiary of government owned Zimbabwe Newspapers, and thereafter gave out US$30, 000 for lunch to be shared amongst the 30 employees. He then offered to upgrade a vehicle for one of the presenters, from a Toyota...

The medal count continues to rise for Botswana at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Ghana. Glory and national pride, as expected, beckons. Beyond the medals however, greater value lies elsewhere. According to the team management, the country’s greatest victory lies in the valuable experience gained by its young athletes competing on one of Africa’s biggest stages. Team manager Keabetswe Friday says the championships have highlighted both the country’s growing strength and the areas that still require improvement if Botswana is to consistently compete among Africa’s athletics elite. According to Friday, Botswana’s technical team deliberately set an ambitious target of four gold medals to challenge athletes mentally and physically against the continent’s top competitors. As of Thursday, Botswana had secured two gold medals and four silver medals, remaining firmly in contention to reach that target. The gold medals came through Lee Eppie in the men’s 400 metres and Kemorena Tisang...

Debut book brings people closer to God For many believers, prayer is communion with God. But for Kanye-born intercessor and prophetic teacher, Kesego Keisang, it is also an opportunity to exercise spiritual authority and influence the unseen realm. Through her debut book, ‘PAGA – The Art of Binding and Loosing’, Keisang seeks to usher Christians into what she describes as a higher level of effective and authoritative intercession. ‘Paga’ is a Hebrew word associated with intercession, loosely translated as ‘meeting with God’. Drawing from Matthew 18:18, the book explores the biblical principle of binding and loosing, which Keisang says many believers have yet to fully understand or apply. “The reflections and insights shared are drawn primarily from prayerful meditation and spiritual discernment. The book serves as a guide to help believers move from basic prayer into a more strategic, impactful, and authoritative role in spiritual matters,” she tells Voice Woman....

It was a tough professional debut for Ntungamili Raguin at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Gaborone M15 tournament this past week. The 17-year-old lost his first professional match 7 – 5, 3 – 6, 5 – 7 against USA’s Preston Brown. Despite a spirited fight, against a much taller, physically imposing and experienced professional opponent, Ntungamili’s inexperience was all there apparent to see. A nervous start, which was compounded later by faults which led to a loss of crucial points made things difficult for the teenager. In his post-match interview, the youngster alluded that the early nerves had taken a lot out of him. So much, he says, he felt fatigued towards the end of the deciding set. In the end, this cost him the match as he failed to make it count when he was serving for the match. Despite leading 5 – 2, the youngster somehow failed to...
