Steps2Walk founder Dr Mark Myerson revealed that the 2026 programme that ran from 15 to 19 June at Lady Pohamba Private Hospital and Windhoek Central Hospital, performed 57 life changing foot and ankle surgeries. The Steps2Walk intervention provides specialised foot and ankle care to children and adults while also offering training to healthcare professionals in Namibia and the wider region. Myerson noted that of the total surgeries performed, 12 patients required procedures on both feet. The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has recorded a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s climate finance ecosystem with the approval of a US$1 million Readiness Grant from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), under the GCF Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme. Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Jerome Mutumba, noted that the grant reinforces DBN’s role as a national vehicle for climate finance mobilisation. The milestone follows DBN’s successful accreditation to the Green Climate Fund last year, making it one of the few regional and international accredited entities approved for funding under the GCF’s 2024-2027 Readiness Support Window. Through its accreditation, DBN has the potential to directly access up to US$250 million in climate finance from the GCF to support local transformative climate initiatives. The readiness support is expected to strengthen the bank’s institutional capacity, systems and technical preparedness to mobilise and manage climate finance. A key outcome of the...
