Ásia, Deutsche Welle, Inglês - UAE denies supporting RSF and Colombian recruits

When Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan welcomed Al-Nour Ahmed Adam — also known as Al-Nour Al-Qubba and a former senior commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia — into the ranks of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) earlier this year, it was one of the most high-profile defections in the Sudanese civil war to date. While the SAF controls the capital Khartoum, Port Sudan and large parts of the east and center of the country, its rival RSF holds vast areas in the west of the country, particularly in Darfur, including the city of El Fasher. Al-Nour Al-Qubba is not the only defector: He was followed a few weeks later by high-ranking RSF commander, Ali Rizq Allah, also known as Al-Savannah. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has reviewed videos purportedly showing these two defectors during the siege of El Fasher, where the international NGO has documented war crimes committed by the RSF,...

By Rukidi Rwakasimbi of Kigambanankwale Dear leaders of all political stripes and citizens of the Republic, The President’s State of the Nation Address found me under the shade of my 60-plus-year-old mango tree. This season, it did not produce fruit, meaning it will bear them in December. As a peasant, I was most concerned with farming. As you may be aware, this year I resolved to crawl out of my shell and add my small voice to the many voices struggling to bring positive energy to our motherland. I strongly believe and hope that if we unite, we shall build a better world for future generations. I intend to do that by calling upon you to join hands and fight the various beasts threatening our existence—the same message preached by our dear leader. First, I will borrow Innocent Tegusulwa’s adage: “We are not poor; it is our heads that are...

By Wendy Naruses, Marketing and Communications Manager, SanlamAllianz. “The true cost of saying goodbye is not measured only in grief, but in the financial burden families are often left to carry.” Death is one of life’s few certainties, yet it remains one of the least planned-for events in many households. In Namibia, funerals are far more than a burial and/or ritual of goodbye. They are a monumental cultural expression of deep love, unwavering respect and communal dignity. It is the moment where the entire community gather to carry the weight of grief together, ensuring that a soul is transitioned with the highest honour. They bring families together, reconnect relatives from across the country, and provide an opportunity to honour a life well lived. The living unites to celebrate, mourn, and elevate the memory of the departed with profound collective love.  But behind the heartfelt tributes, comforting words, and community support...
