MICROFINANCE company, Letshego Financial Services, has officially unveiled its refurbished Mohale’s Hoek branch, celebrating the institution’s continued growth, expanding financial services and commitment to the local community.
Although the branch has been operating for some time, the Friday ceremony formally introduced its newly renovated premises, redesigned to align with Letshego’s standardised branch identity nationwide.
Addressing guests during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Letshego Financial Services Chief Executive Officer, Selloane Tsike, said the refurbishment formed part of the company’s broader strategy to modernise its branches and reflect the institution’s transformation.
She said another key reason for the official opening was Letshego’s recent achievement of becoming the first microfinance institution in Lesotho to receive approval from the Central Bank of Lesotho to operate as a deposit-taking microfinance institution.
“This latest development is affording every Mosotho an opportunity to benefit immensely from our services,” Ms Tsike said.
She noted that the institution had diversified its product offering beyond traditional lending, highlighting services such as the Sekhele Funeral Cover and credit facilities for private-sector employees, all aimed at improving the livelihoods of Basotho.
“We offer very competitive borrowing rates compared to our competitors. My colleagues will elaborate further. This is not a day for speeches but for celebrations,” she said, drawing applause from the audience.
Mohale’s Hoek Branch Manager, Seetsetsa Matlama, said many of the institution’s products had been developed in response to customers’ needs and experiences.
“Our credit services have evolved because of the demands made by our clients. We encountered many instances where people were taking loans for the wrong reasons, and we responded by introducing products such as funeral plans and accidental funding to cater for such needs,” Mr Matlama said.
He added that employees were equally pleased with the refurbished premises.
“We are also happy with the design of our new offices; they have elevated us,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Office of the Mohale’s Hoek District Administrator, Paul Lephatsoe commended Letshego for building a reputation as a trustworthy and dependable financial institution.
Mr Lephatsoe said the company’s compliance with financial regulations had given customers confidence, adding that he had never been disappointed by the institution since becoming one of its clients.
Beyond the formal proceedings, the event embraced a festive atmosphere that reflected the significance of the milestone.
Popular musician, Litšepe, entertained the crowd with a string of well-known hits, including his latest single, Rato Laka, prompting enthusiastic sing-alongs from fans.
One of the day’s most memorable performances came from a choir comprising male inmates from the Mohale’s Hoek Correctional Services. Their emotionally charged songs, written during incarceration, resonated deeply with attendees.
One composition carried a strong warning against criminal behaviour, urging people to avoid actions that could lead them behind bars. The performers reminded the audience that seemingly minor offences can quickly place someone on the wrong side of the law and encouraged the public to make responsible choices.
Despite the weight of their message, the young men delivered their performance with remarkable talent, energy and conviction, earning warm applause from the crowd.
As the celebrations continued, Letshego also demonstrated its commitment to the community by donating food parcels to the Mohale’s Hoek Correctional Services as a token of appreciation.
The combination of upgraded facilities, expanded financial services, community support and memorable entertainment ensured that the official opening left a lasting impression, marking another important chapter in Letshego Financial Services’ presence in Mohale’s Hoek.
