…after allegedly using fake payslip and employment letter to secure loan

THREE men have appeared before the Maseru Magistrates’ Court on charges of fraud and forgery in connection with an alleged M200,000 loan fraudulently obtained from Letshego Financial Services Lesotho.
The accused – Letsitsi Mokoma (33), a freelance graphic designer from Thabaneng, Mafeteng; Kosha Cabela (34), a sales agent at Platinum Credit residing at Sakamaneng; and Peete Marakabei (46), of Ha Leqele – appeared before Magistrate Puseletso McPherson. Advocate Keketso Motiki prosecuted.
Mokoma is alleged to be the beneficiary of the loan. He is accused of acting in concert with Cabela and Marakabei in securing the loan.
According to the charge sheet, the accused, acting in concert and in furtherance of a common purpose, falsely represented to Letshego on or about 29 April 2026 that Mokoma qualified for a M200,000 loan. They allegedly prepared and presented false documents to support this claim, inducing Letshego to act on the representation and pay out the loan to Mokoma, causing the company financial prejudice.
The second count relates to forgery, allegedly committed on or about 28 April 2026 at the same premises. The charge sheet alleges that the accused unlawfully and intentionally fabricated documents – including a C-tract/payslip and a confirmation letter of employment – with intent to defraud Letshego.
All three confirmed that they understood their charges and were advised to apply for bail.
In his bail application, Mokoma told the court he was a first-time offender, he was employed and had an infant child. Cabela said he was his family’s breadwinner, was employed at Platinum Credit and had a minor child.
The trio was released on M3000 bail each, on condition that they attend all remands, do not interfere with Crown witnesses, and stand trial to finality.
