(CNS): A physician employed at the HSA hospital in George Town was arrested last weekend in relation to allegations of immigration fraud being investigated by Customs and Border Control. CBC officers arrested a visitor on Thursday, 16 April, at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) after he attempted to enter the Cayman Islands using a fraudulent travel document. The man is believed to be the doctor’s husband. Shortly after his arrival, the man presented documentation that raised concerns during routine CBC Passport Control checks, officials said in a press release. Further examination by officers confirmed that the passport was not authentic, and the individual was immediately taken into custody. He was formally charged with possession of a forged, altered, or irregular passport, illegal entry, and uttering a false document. He appeared in court on 20 April and pleaded guilty to the charges. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to...

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Council Member Chi Ossé was released from police custody Wednesday after officers arrested him during a protest tied to an alleged deed theft eviction in Bedford-Stuyvesant.  Video circulating online shows officers taking Ossé, a Haitian American representing District 36, into custody as demonstrators gathered to oppose the eviction of a homeowner involved in a property dispute. He also called for a citywide moratorium on deed theft-related cases, a demand he first launched in February. “I have a concussion from the NYPD shoving me...

A lawman yesterday recalled how accused Clarence Rudolph Watkins struggled violently with police before reaching into his waist for a gun. The accused, said Constable Jabarry Mayers, later admitted he did not have a licence for it. The constable was testifying in the illegal gun and ammunition trial of Watkins, which continued in theNo. 5A Supreme Court yesterday. Watkins, of Chapman Lane, St Michael, has denied having a .10mm semi-automatic pistol, as well as 16 rounds of ammunition, on May 15, 2021. Constable Mayers said he and Constable Subhan were in a marked police vehicle in a convoy of police vehicles on Green Hill Drive, Silver Hill, Christ Church, when he saw the accused riding a motorcycle, going in the opposite direction. The lawman recalled that the police vehicle behind him had stopped next to another vehicle and the accused man’s path became blocked. “He then attempted to ride the...

– Advertisement – Governor Greg Abbott today celebrated the first round of Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) funding that is being awarded to over 42,000 Texas families. Administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts under Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock, the TEFA program gives parents greater flexibility in choosing the best education for their child. “School choice funds being distributed to Texas families paves the way for Texas to become the No. 1 state for education,” said Governor Abbott. “These accounts will give parents the freedom to choose the best learning environment for their children, regardless of their income or location. I congratulate Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock for his work on kick-starting the program, aiding in the success of so many young Texans and the future of our great state.” The TEFA program, which prioritizes students with disabilities and from low-income families, allows families to enroll their children in a school of their...

(CNS): The Ministry of Infrastructure said it is working on regulations that will give the Public Transport Unit (PTU) the power to enforce the law. There has been a growing number of complaints about the unreliability of public bus services and the conduct of some operators, and Cabinet recently quashed an effort by bus operators to increase fares. However, officials are now warning that new rules will enhance oversight and enforcement, including a new administrative penalties framework. The government said in a release that it was taking the conduct of drivers seriously because public transport “is an essential service, and commuters are entitled to expect consistent routes, reliable service, and professional conduct”. Consequently, the PTU, under the direction of the Public Transport Board, is actively monitoring operations across the system. Operators are obligated under the Traffic (Public Passenger Vehicles) Regulations to adhere to approved routes, maintain a scheduled service, and...

Water tanker trucks filling up in Port-au-Prince. 96.7% of tanker truck water was found to be contaminated. An alarming Jan. 30 report by the Commerce and Industry Ministry (MCI) revealed that 92% of the water consumed by over three million Haitians in greater Port-au-Prince does not meet public health standards established by the World Health Organization and that “bacteria were present in 86% of the samples, five of which are harmful to health, including those originating from fecal matter.” Michel Jean Gilles, president of l’Observatoire du droit du consommateur haïtien (ODCOH), wrote a Mar. 10 article commenting on the MCI report for Rezò Nodwès, and the MCI’s James Monazard revealed these shocking statistics on an episode of Radio Magik 9 on Feb. 4, 2026. The bacterial contamination affects 100% of water sold in five-gallon containers and at treatment kiosks, 96.7% of water sold from resale kiosks (tanker trucks), 92.6% of...
