Founded in 1926, the local SWI marked its 100th anniversary in Kyleakin Hall last Wednesday afternoon with a centenary exhibition and a social gathering. Members enjoyed a sumptuous spread prepared by local caterer Rhona Coogan, a special cake baked by institute member and expert cake maker Barbara Haigh and bubbly for a toast. The exhibition featured crafting and handiwork and members were able to relive key moments in the group’s history through memorabilia and old photographs which were on display. TRYNESS TEMBO Lusaka ZANACO has posted a profit after tax of K868 million for the period ended June 30, 2026, slightly down by one percent compared to the previous financial year. The marginal dip in profit has been attributed to a 20 percent increase in operating expenses, which rose by K295 million and offset the positive growth recorded in operating income. According to the unaudited results for the period ended June 30, 2026 issued by company secretary Kaluba Kaulung’ombe-Inampasa, total operating income went up by 13 percent, equivalent to K367 million, driven by solid performance across key revenue streams. By Amos Tayebwa MBARARA — Kajara County MP James Hunter Tukahairwa Byenjeru has hit back at two opponents challenging his 2026 election victory, dismissing their petition and accusing them of failing to understand the law. Byenjeru appeared before the Mbarara High Court on Monday, September 14, alongside petitioners Deus Muhwezi Rwambikana and Venancio Ahabwe as the court heard submissions in the election dispute. The two petitioners, who contested the Kajara County parliamentary seat against Byenjeru in the 2026 election, are challenging his victory. According to Byenjeru, the petition is based partly on an allegation that he had previously appeared before a court, which they argue affected his eligibility to contest. Byenjeru rejected the claim, saying he has never appeared before a court as alleged.
