Bukayo Saka said that Arsenal’s critics were “not laughing at us anymore” as the club celebrated their first Premier League title in more than two decades. Gunners players and staff gathered at the club’s London Colney training ground on Tuesday to watch closest challengers Manchester City draw 1-1 away to Bournemouth—a result which gave Arsenal an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table with just Sunday’s final round of matches remaining. As the Arsenal squad relished the club’s first Premier League title since 2004, there were also joyous scenes at the north London side’s Emirates Stadium, where thousands of supporters gathered to mark the occasion by lighting fireworks and flares. Arsenal, runners-up in the league for the previous three seasons, had faced accusations of “bottling” their title bid, with several observers questioning their temperament and ability to handle pressure following a 2-1 defeat at City on April 19....

Ásia, Deutsche Welle, Inglês - China's Africa trade push: Partnership or power grab?
2026-05-20 07:15:33
The first shipments of avocados from Kenya arrived in China under Beijing’s new zero-tariff rule early this month — a clear sign, analysts say, that the agreement is starting to have real effects. The policy, which came into effect on May 1, gives Africa’s biggest economies tariff-free access to China’s market for the next two years.  “China introducing the zero tariff is very, very encouraging,” Olive Gichuri, a Kenyan coffee farmer, told DW. “It means better earnings for the farmers. When our coffee becomes very competitive, it means more demand and also more market for farmers.” “They [farmers] are not only limited to selling their products in the local [Kenyan] market,” Gichuri said, adding that the zero tariff had opened the market in China. How China’s trade relationship with African countries has grown Lauren Johnston, a senior research fellow and international economist specializing in China, Africa and geoeconomics at the AustChina Institute in Melbourne, told DW that the policy...

Sierra Leone Telegraph: 19 May 2026: The Ubuntuverse Institute has released The 3 Trillion Corporate Advocacy PlayBook: Africa’s 10× CAMPs Accelerating Just Clean Energy’s Green Industrialisation, a field-defining framework charting how corporate actors can unlock the continent’s $3 trillion clean energy opportunity. Drawing on evidence from the IEA, IRENA, the African Development Bank, the African Union and BloombergNEF, the PlayBook identifies a $2.25 trillion private investment gap that, if closed, could compress Africa’s industrialisation timeline from the historical 50 to 100 years to 20 to 40 years — placing the continent at the centre of the global Just Energy Transition rather than at its periphery. Africa holds approximately 30 per cent of the world’s critical mineral reserves and 60 per cent of the world’s best solar resources, yet attracts less than 3 per cent of global clean energy investment and captures only 1 per cent of global solar capacity. Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Maxime Prévot, recently dismissed allegations that Brussels is arming Burundi to wage war against Rwanda, calling them false and entirely unfounded. He went further, warning that such claims serve those who seek to inflame tensions and undermine peace efforts. ALSO READ: Belgium’s withdrawal from UN mission emboldened genocidal forces His words would carry more weight if Belgium were not simultaneously providing shelter and political space to financiers of the Kinshasa- and Gitega-backed FDLR, a UN-sanctioned terrorist group rooted in the genocidal ideology that led to the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. ALSO READ: A historical timeline of Belgium’s divisive politics in Rwanda Follow us on WhatsApp | LinkedIn for the latest headlines The tensions between Belgium and Rwanda did not arise in a vacuum. Belgium’s own actions contributed to them. Before lecturing others about disinformation, Prévot should address a far...
