The High Court in Kampala has ruled that the denial Senior Counsel Martha Karua from entering Uganda and the detention Erias Lukwago, did not deprive Dr Kiiza Besigye and Hajji Obeid of their constitutional right to legal representation or a fair hearing. Justice Simon Peter Kinobe delivered the judgment Tuesday as he ddismissed an application Dr. Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale. Dr. Besigye and Lutale had petitioned the court over the circumstances leading to the deportation of Martha Karua and Lukwago’s arrest. The two lawyers were leading Besigye and Lutale’s defence jailing in relation to the ongoing treason case. Maputo — The governments of Mozambique and Eswatini have decided to join efforts aimed at boosting regional tourism through strategies focused on improving cross-border travel. According to Hélder Jauana, chairman of the National Agency for Tourism Development and Investment, speaking on Monday, in Maputo, at a meeting with tourism authorities from Eswatini, Mozambique is committed to an integrated approach linking tourism and investment. “When we discuss investment opportunities, we are attracting capital, creating jobs, and simultaneously promoting tourism. Mozambique should be seen not just as a destination, but as a complete experience for visitors”, he said. Gareth Guadalupe anunciou que o pagamento será feito de forma faseada, começando pelos ministérios e instituições com menor número de funcionários, incluindo a Comunicação Social deixando os maiores para o mês de setembro, sendo que o Ministério da Educação receberá o subsídio em agosto. The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) has announced that the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS), the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) will officially launch the second phase of the SACU Regional Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) Pilot on 18 August. Following the first pilot phase conducted between Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa from January to March 2026, this second phase involves Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, running from 18 August 2026 through March 2027. Full implementation of the SACU Regional AEO MRA across all SACU Member States is expected to commence in April 2027. The pilot marks a key milestone in SACU’s Customs Modernisation Programme and aims to transition the signed Mutual Recognition Arrangement from policy into practical execution. Launched this week at the Government Complex, the OAG Strategic Plan 2026-2031 is anchored on four strategic priorities: strengthening the office’s functional and financial independence, improving audit coverage and impact, enhancing audit quality, and promoting institutional, organisational and professional excellence.
