MBABANE- Eswatini international Kwakhe Thwala has announced his return in style, inspiring Zimbabwe Premier League side Scottland FC to a commanding 6-0 victory over MWOS Under-19 in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup Round of 16 at Rufaro Stadium.
Thwala, who joined the Zimbabwean champions from Nsingizini Hotspurs on a two-year deal in January 2026, put up an impressive display on his return to the starting team this past Saturday. The former Nsingizini star capped off a dominant performance by scoring the third goal in the 50th minute to complete the rout.
The versatile full-back’s stellar form serves as a direct warning shot to his former employers. Thwala is now set to haunt the Eswatini side when Scottland FC and Nsingizini face off in the first leg of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round at the National Stadium in Zimbabwe on Sunday, September 6.
Scottland’s resounding victory keeps their campaign alive in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, Zimbabwe’s premier knockout tournament. Backed by a massive US$ 5 million per season, it stands as the richest domestic cup competition in that country. The nationwide tournament features a multi-stage structure open to community sides, provincial teams, regional lower-division clubs,and Premier Soccer League (PSL) powerhouses.
Despite watching their former player flourish across the border, the Eswatini champions are now active on the domestic front. The Eswatini outfit have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Premier League returnees Madlenya this past Sunday. The season curtain-raiser features all 16 Premier League teams, offering Nsingizini key match fitness.
However, the impending continental assignment presents a far steeper test. With Thwala operating at peak sharpness for his new side, Nsingizini face a formidable task to neutralise their former star in Harare this Sunday.
