SENIOR golfer, Letlafuoa Molapo, emerged victorious in the May edition of the Maseru Golf Club (MGC) Corporate League after a tightly contested competition held at the Maseru Golf Course yesterday.
The tournament was sponsored by Liberty Life Lesotho.
Molapo finished with 37 points, tied with Motlatsi Ramafole and Mathalea Molapo in a closely fought battle for top honours. However, he clinched first place on countback due to his superior handicap of 17.
Ramafole, playing off a handicap of 19, settled for second position while Mathalea finished third with a handicap of 24.
The MGC Corporate League, which started in August last year, runs until July 2026 and features monthly tournaments sponsored by different corporate partners.
Speaking to the Sunday Express, Molapo said the victory came as a surprise as he did not believe his score would be enough to secure the win.
“Some people have won the monthly tournaments with about 40 points, so after scoring 37 points I did not see the win coming,” he said.
“What worked for me yesterday was my handicap because when there is a tie, the better handicap is used to separate players.
“But I also practised a lot this week.”
Meanwhile, Liberty Life Lesotho board chairperson, Kelello Lerotholi, described the tournament as a success and thanked all corporates that participated.
He said the company was pleased to support an initiative that promotes both competition and networking through golf.
“The league brings corporates together to compete against each other while also creating opportunities to network through the game of golf,” Lerotholi said.
Although senior golfers already have their own Lesotho Seniors Golf League, Lerotholi added that the Corporate League also provides them with another platform to continue competing alongside other golfers.
