Cestos City, Rivercess County — May 7, 2026 — Former Public Works Minister Ruth Coker Collins has criticized the ruling Unity Party (UP) government, describing its claims of progress on road connectivity in Rivercess County as misleading and lacking substance.
Speaking on the condition of the Buchanan–Rivercess corridor, Ruth Coker Collins said the administration has introduced no new road initiatives, arguing that ongoing works are projects inherited from the previous Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government.
“There is nothing new,” she said, insisting that current efforts reflect continuity rather than fresh development.
The former minister accused the UP government of rebranding projects initiated under former President George Weah’s administration while downplaying earlier contributions.
She emphasized that routine road maintenance, including filling potholes and compacting laterite surfaces, should not be presented as major infrastructure progress, noting that such practices have long been standard.
While acknowledging that governance is a continuous process, Ruth Coker Collins urged the government to deliver visible and measurable improvements in the sector.
She further stressed the importance of advancing beyond maintenance to more durable infrastructure, including paved roads and long‑term connectivity projects essential for Rivercess County’s development.
Highlighting a key project, Ruth Coker Collins pointed to the proposed road linking Grand Bassa through Bambai Junction to Cestos and ITI, noting that it remains a critical initiative backed by the African Development Bank and central to the county’s economic transformation.
She also called on residents of Rivercess to remain united in advancing local development, expressing hope for a future in which young people are empowered and self-reliant.
