Namdeb Diamond Corporation officially handed over three brand-new solar geysers to Suiderlig Secondary School in Keetmanshoop, ensuring that students living in the school’s hostels can finally look forward to a warm shower on freezing mornings.
The geysers will be installed as part of the ongoing renovations at the school, reaffirming Namdeb’s purpose of Mining for Good.
The donation worth N$79,000.00 follows a pledge made last year during the school’s fundraising gala dinner to support the repair and upgrading of the hostel’s facilities. The initiative was spearheaded by the Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Hon. Gaudentia Krohne, who engaged Namdeb to secure pledges for the donations.
The education sector has always been a critical area of focus for Namdeb, demonstrated through consistent investments across Namibia. Notable initiatives include the electrification of Donkerbos Primary School in the Omaheke Region. However, the most significant milestone remains the handover of a fully-fledged high school to the Ministry of Education which is an enduring testament to Namdeb’s dedication.
//Kharas Regional Director of Education, Mr. Nicolaas Eiman, welcomed the donation and highlighted its importance:
“By providing hot water to this hostel, you have provided more than just utilities; you have restored comfort for our learners. This is a vital investment in our regional educational infrastructure.”
Speaking at the handover event, Namdeb Chief Executive, Riaan Burger, emphasised the company’s responsibility toward advancing education: “As an organisation, our role is to fulfil needs such as this. The value of the business does not end when mining is complete. Mining is finite, and what truly matters is the legacy you leave behind. For us, that legacy is investing in this country and its people.”
By introducing renewable energy solutions such as solar geysers, reliance on non-renewable resources is reduced, the carbon footprint is lowered, and clean energy use is promoted. In doing so, Namdeb aligns with the nation’s vision of a greener, more resilient economy that safeguards the environment while meeting the needs of its people.
