Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Saturday, June 27, 2026, said that Egypt adopts a comprehensive vision for reforming the United Nations and strengthening the ability of international financial institutions and multilateral development banks to provide affordable and sustainable financing for developing countries, while addressing the debt crisis to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support climate action efforts without imposing additional burdens on developing nations.
The Foreign Minister made the remarks during a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the UN and exchanged views on the most prominent regional and international issues.
Abdelatty praised the close partnership between Egypt and the United Nations, reaffirming Egypt’s unwavering support for the multilateral international system and its commitment to international law and the UN Charter.
He also commended the courageous stances of UN Secretary General António Guterres and his deputy in leading the world body and fulfilling their mandate to uphold the UN Charter and confront violations of international law.
The Foreign Minister further praised the UN’s role in maintaining international peace and security, stressing the importance of respecting international law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law in various conflicts, particularly in light of the continued Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
He reviewed Egypt’s efforts to contain regional crises and reduce tensions, underscoring the importance of strengthening multilateral action, supporting political and diplomatic solutions to conflicts, and intensifying international cooperation to address global challenges in a manner that promotes security, stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting addressed ways to further develop the United Nations system, in light of evolving international developments.
For her part, Mohammed expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting UN efforts at both the regional and international levels, praising the country’s active contribution within its regional spheres to resolving conflicts and promoting stability, as well as its role in UN peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General also affirmed the organization’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Egypt across various fields.
