-President meets all requirements, Kabesha tells ConCourt GRACE CHAILE Lusaka THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha and Registrar of Societies have told the Constitutional Court that President Hakainde Hichilema is eligible to contest the August 13 general election on the UPND ticket because he meets all constitutional requirements for the office. They have contended that Mr Hichilema was validly nominated by the governing political party. The respondents have urged the court to dismiss a petition by party member Charles Longwe challenging President Hichilema’s adoption as UPND presidential candidate and subsequent nomination for the general election. In its answer, ECZ states that President Hichilema and his running mate Mutale Nalumango satisfied all qualifications prescribed under the Constitution and the Electoral Process Act. The Agricultural Bank of Namibia and the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK), known as the international development branch of the German Savings Banks Finance Group have announced the signing of a cooperation agreement to strengthen financial inclusion across the country. Signed on 11 June, the agreement forms part of DSIK’s regional project, “Financial Inclusion and Medium/Small Enterprise Promotion for Employment and Resilience in Southern Africa,” which is implemented in Zamibia, Malawi and Namibia, with financial support from the German Government. The project will commence in August and run until July 2028. A statement to announce the agreement explained that the objective is to strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs), improve access to financial services, promote financial literacy, and support the creation of sustainable and gender-equitable employment opportunities. Wesseh has announced new measures to combat academic fraud, unveiling a QR code security feature on UMU degrees. Wesseh said the new security feature follows several complaints about academic fraud, including incidents of individuals faking UMU degrees and claiming to be graduates. The first batch of QR code-enabled degrees was issued during the university’s 21st convocation and commencement exercises in March, when 612 students graduated from UMU.
