RCIPS H145 Helicopter (CNS): The Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) has said that a body, thought to be that of a missing jet ski rider, was recovered in the water off Seven Mile Beach today, 7 June, by the RCIPS Air Operations Unit. The rider was reported missing late Saturday night after someone who knew them found the jet ski drifting about a mile offshore. Although the person who reported the missing person did not physically witness the individual fall from the watercraft, the report of the riderless jet ski prompted a coordinated and extensive search-and-rescue effort in the area, which began last night, led by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG), assisted by the RCIPS Drone Unit and the Cayman Islands Fire Service. The SAR operation continued late into the night and recommenced Sunday at 5:30am. The authorities confirmed early afternoon on Sunday that the police helicopter, with an...

76 Nearly 300 people were under probation supervision in 2025, with almost half linked to violent or threatening offences. Minister of Home Affairs and Information Gregory Nicholls made this disclosure during the Barbados Probation Service’s 80th anniversary celebration at the Sanctuary Empowerment Centre on Country Road, St Michael, on Sunday. He said the celebration comes at a challenging time for Barbados, given the number of young men, including teenagers, appearing before the courts. Referring to the department’s 2025 statistics, he revealed: “Of those 295, 138 were placed on probation for violent or threatening offences against persons ranging from acts causing bodily harm to sexual offences and property-related crimes involving violence or threats.” The minister stressed that behind the figures were young Barbadians whose futures remained uncertain. “These are not the ones who are convicted; these are the ones who are placed on probation. These are our Barbadian children, our children,...

(CNS): The RCIPS has issued a traffic advisory to remind truck drivers that it is illegal to use unmuffled engine compression brakes (also known as Jake Brakes) other than for emergency purposes. The misuse of Jake Brakes is frequently cited by commenters on CNS as an offence that occurs frequently on the roads of Grand Cayman, apparently without consequence. In the advisory, the RCIPS noted that these brakes “create loud noise and cause disturbances to residential communities, and should not be necessary if driving safely and within speed limits with the road conditions in the Cayman Islands”. The police said they will be cracking down on offenders, particularly in the Eastern Districts. According to the Traffic Act (2026 Revision), the penalty for violations is up to a fine of $2,500 or six months in prison. The RCIPS asked all truck drivers to do their part to ensure the safety and...

62 The Ministry of Education Transformation is ramping up efforts to modernise the education system, with a revised Education Act expected by year-end. This was revealed by Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw during a church service to recognise International Children’s Month. She spoke of progress under the Barbados Education Transformation Agenda as she made reference to the current Education Act, which dates back to 1983. She told the congregation of the Church of Christ the King that the ministry has been restructuring its operations through upgrades, the incorporation of more technology at schools and partnering with additional learning institutions. But she insisted that a problem still exists if their work is not supported by regulation. “I can assure you that the transformation on which we are embarking is not being done in a piecemeal way, but we are also introducing legislation and refining legislation to reflect our current realities....

Trinidad Tobago, Newsday, Inglês - Rap sheet of wrongs - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

Commentary Newsday Friday 30 January 2026 Kamla Persad-Bissessar – Wayne Kublalsingh Many of our TT officials are casting a long eye on Venezuela’s crude. But the Kamla Persad-Bissessar government has a rap sheet of wrongs against the Bolivarian Republic. With this rap sheet, how are we getting Vene crude again? On January 23, 2019, Donald Trump posted the following on social media: “Today, I am officially recognizing the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, as the interim president of Venezuela.” Two days later, Mrs Persad-Bissessar, the then Leader of the Opposition rose in Parliament to effusively announce, “We’re preparing to join with the Venezuelan people and the free world in recognising Juan Guaidó as the interim president of Venezuela.” No sooner had Trump spoken than the current PM rose to parrot his words. The US instigated an uprising to have the Bolivarian revolution replaced by Guaidó. The uprising...

16 By:  Dennis DePeiza It appears that there is a global trend where private sector employers and governments are engaging in the practice of downsizing business operations. This is being done under the guise that there is a growing necessity to promote efficiencies in doing business, for the purpose of maintaining business viability, productivity and reducing expenditures. The practice of laying off, retrenching or making workers redundant, has been successfully employed.  Workers who are thrown on the breadline are the victims of these legitimate forms of action. The employee can, however, protest on grounds of unfair dismissal where there is reason to believe that the employer has not followed the established fair procedures before moving to lay off, retrench or become engaged in the process of redundancy. Best practice dictates that the employee has the right to have a fair process, proper notice and severance pay, if he/she qualifies. An...
