The Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM) has joined forces with the Global Cybersecurity Centre to train local civil servants in cybersecurity. The two organisations signed a landmark three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to boost the public sector’s digital safety. The new agreement comes at a crucial time as global cyber threats continue to rise. Under the three-year pact, NIPAM and the Global Cybersecurity Center will work side-by-side to roll out specialized training programs and launch awareness campaigns designed specifically for government employees. NIPAM Executive Director, Dr Heroldt Murangi, in a statement, emphasized that no individual or institution is immune to cyber-attacks, which can occur at any time and from multiple sources. He noted that the partnership comes at an opportune time, as NIPAM continues to fulfil its mandate of building capacity within the public sector. “There must be cybersecurity seminars, training programmes, finalized learning materials,...

The President H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has shared a warm vision for the country’s economic future: one where financial literacy moves beyond corporate boardrooms and finds a home in rural communities, local schools, and civic organizations. Speaking at the 30th anniversary of Namibia Asset Management (NAM) held this week, Nandi-Ndaitwah said the growth of institutions such as NAM forms part of the broader national effort to broaden participation, deepen inclusion, and ensure that more Namibians can share in the opportunities created by the economy. While Namibia boasts a developed non-banking financial sector, she noted that for too long Namibians have been excluded from meaningful participation in the formal economy and from the benefits of wealth creation. As we widen access to investment opportunities, Namibia must equally widen access to financial knowledge, she said, noting that financial literacy is not a luxury, but an essential life skill. Nandi-Ndaitwah said that every...

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) formally engaged with Telecom Namibia on Wednesday 03 June, where Telecom had to furnish an update on the causes of recent service disruptions and measures already implemented. CRAN Chief Executive, Ms Emilia Nghikembua, noted, “Between January and May 2026, Telecom Namibia recorded several service outages, pointing to persistent network instability. These were not minor, localised glitches, but repeated nationwide disruptions affecting mobile data, voice calls and text messaging across the country.” The outages were attributed to failures in access systems, power supply, fibre connections, hardware, transport infrastructure, as well as incidents of copper theft. More than 80 cases were reported during four months. “This sharp rise in cases directly undermines last-mile connectivity, especially in Windhoek. While urgent countermeasures are needed to curb this criminal activity, it also presents an opportunity to modernise the network by moving away from vulnerable legacy copper infrastructure and...
