A major funding initiative has injected one million euros directly for use by feast enthusiasts, the government said Saturday.
Distributed through the Wirt Artistiku scheme, managed by the Arts Council Malta under the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, this substantial fund will directly support 77 distinct projects across Malta and Gozo.
The financial backing targets crucial areas that keep the traditional celebrations alive and safe, including instrumental music training, the restoration of historical artifacts and archives, and administrative infrastructure.
Additionally, a significant portion of the funds will be dedicated to upgrading safety measures in fireworks factories and creating or restoring the intricate street decorations that transform the islands each summer.
The funding, the government said, recognises that the magic of the festival season does not happen overnight, but is rather the result of twelve months of unseen preparation, craftsmanship, and training.
This investment aims to build a more sustainable future for these cultural groups, ensuring that the skills and stories of the festa are passed down to future generations.
For those voluntary organizations that missed the initial application deadline, a second call for the Wirt Artistiku scheme is scheduled to open in the second half of this year, offering another opportunity to secure vital funding for community projects, the government said.
