Atoll Dispatch by Sophia Nasif.
On Saturday 16 May, Sergeant Mohamed Mahudhee of the MNDF Coast Guard died during the operation to recover the bodies of five Italian divers from the Devana Kandu cave system in Vaavu atoll.
According to the official account given to the BBC, CNN and the Associated Press, he died of decompression sickness after a planned MNDF dive.
Sophia was at the recovery site that day. This is what she saw – three hours of observation at the surface, in pictures and timestamps. https://maldivesindependent.com/atoll-dispatch/what-was-visible-from-the-surface-a-photo-essay-from-the-recovery-dive-at-devana-kandu-2eae
