The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) has expanded its aviation safety and emergency response capabilities at the coast with the acquisition of a new, state-of-the-art Rosenbauer Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle for deployment at Walvis Bay International Airport.
The addition of this state-of- the-art firefighting vehicle strengthens the airport’s emergency response capacity, ensuring rapid and effective response to aviation incidents.
As global aviation regulations continue to evolve, modern ARFF equipment is essential for compliance
with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety requirements.
According to NAC, by enhancing its rescue and firefighting capabilities, Walvis Bay International Airport is better equipped to maintain and potentially improve its airport rescue and firefighting category from its current sixth. The move also allows for larger aircraft to land at the airport and provides confidence to international airlines and passengers.
Walvis Bay, as a strategic coastal gateway, plays a vital role in facilitating tourism growth, supporting cargo and freight movement, and connecting Namibia to global markets. By strengthening airport infrastructure, NAC is contributing to creating a more attractive and competitive environment for both passenger and cargo airlines.
