Prime Minister Robert Abela said that Labour’s electoral manifesto is a “contract and guarantee” with the public, adding that only Labour has the experience and team capable of implementing its proposals and continue leading the country through international challenges. Addressing a Labour mass rally in Mqabba, Abela said that the country had reached the halfway point of a positive electoral campaign “filled with ideas,” while calling for Maltese and Gozitan people to remain united and continue working together for the country they love. Abela said Malta may be a small island, but it remains a strong country despite global instability and wars taking place around it. “In a world where wars have become the new normal, on 30 May we have a clear choice, not only on proposals, but on competence and credibility,” he said. Abela said that Malta remained stronger than many other countries because Labour...

Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg called for a “fresh start” for Malta, saying that the country could “take a fresh breath” if voters choose a new direction at the next general election. Addressing a mass rally in Mosta, Borg said that the Nationalist Party would “continue working to save everything that is Maltese,” and focus on cost of living, identity and long-term national direction. The event also included brief remarks from Michael Psaila Debono and Gabriella Farrugia, who spoke about unity within the party and the need to address affordability and opportunities for younger generations. Borg said the campaign so far had been defined by direct engagement with the public, saying that the PN had met families, workers, pensioners and young people across Malta and Gozo. He said these conversations consistently highlighted concerns over rising living costs, housing affordability, infrastructure pressure and uncertainty about future prospects. He...

Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg has pledged a wide-ranging package of education reforms, including curriculum modernisation, new trade centres, stronger support for neurodivergent students, and a commitment that a new school would be opened every year, during a political activity held in Żebbuġ. Addressing supporters at a political discussion event focused on education, Borg said that the Nationalist Party was committed to giving Malta’s education system a renewed direction rooted in opportunity, skills development and inclusion. “We will not let any survey discourage us and we will keep rolling up our sleeves. We are with you, and together we will give our country a new breath,” Borg said. Borg said education remained the foundation of society and insisted that investment in the sector was ultimately an investment in the country’s future. As a continued commitment to expanding school infrastructure, Borg promised that under a Nationalist-led government, a...

Police assistance was requested at around 7am in Triq il-Mosta. With Malta’s general election now just two weeks away, the political battle is entering its decisive phase as parties turn their focus from national messaging to the realities of the country’s 13 electoral districts. While the overall picture still points towards a contest dominated by the two major parties, the district-by-district landscape reveals several key battlegrounds where shifts in votes, candidate strength and changing demographics could influence the final parliamentary balance. The Labour Party remains firmly entrenched in its southern heartlands, particularly in districts two, three and four, where it has consistently secured four out of five seats in recent elections. Yet even in these areas, retirements and the departure of established vote-pullers have opened internal contests over who will inherit those votes. For the Nationalist Party, attention is centred on marginal districts such as the fifth, sixth and twelfth, where relatively small swings could translate into...

As Malta’s election campaign moved beyond its halfway point, the past seven days offered the clearest picture yet of the competing visions being presented by Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition leader Alex Borg. What began as a contest dominated largely by economic pledges and headline announcements evolved into a broader debate about national identity, quality of life, affordability, migration, public services and political credibility. The week revealed not only two distinct policy approaches, but also two entirely different readings of Malta’s current condition. Labour consistently portrayed the country as a success story requiring stability, refinement and continued investment. The Nationalist Party, meanwhile, increasingly argued that Malta’s economic growth has created serious social pressures that now demand correction, restraint and a new direction. The contrast in tone was visible from the start. Labour’s campaign continued to revolve around continuity and State intervention. Abela repeatedly described his government...

Floriana F.C. were crowned Malta Premier champions for the 27th time after staging a dramatic comeback to beat Marsaxlokk F.C. 2-1 in a tense YoHealth Malta Premier Finalissima played before 6,000 spectators at the National Stadium. The Greens looked destined for disappointment after trailing at half-time against a Marsaxlokk side that controlled much of the opening period and appeared on course for victory. Marsaxlokk took the lead on 36 minutes as Rasmus Linden anticipated Carlo Zammit Lonardelli and goalkeeper Guilherme Cioletti and lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper ending at the back of the net. But Floriana responded after the break, drawing level with a Federico Varela shot that beat goalkeeper Mafoumbi.  The Greens then snatched victory deep into stoppage time through a goal that immediately sparked furious protests from the Marsaxlokk players and bench. In the third minute of added time, Carlo Zammit Lonardelli launched a...

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg pledged major investment in Gozo’s infrastructure and connectivity on Saturday, outlining a series of proposals aimed at ending what he described as the island’s long-standing neglect. Addressing a campaign activity in Munxar alongside candidates from the 13th district, Borg repeated the pledge that a future Nationalist government would treat Gozo as a national priority rather than “an afterthought”. Among the key proposals announced were plans to expand the Mgarr harbour, develop a small alternative port in Gozo and introduce two new ferries – one dedicated to passengers and another for cargo transport. Borg also proposed the return of sea cargo services linking Gozo directly to the Grand Harbour and eventually the Freeport, arguing this would reduce traffic congestion caused by freight travelling by road to Cirkewwa. As he had done in his morning press event, the PN leader accused the current government...

A major funding initiative has injected one million euros directly for use by feast enthusiasts, the government said Saturday. Distributed through the Wirt Artistiku scheme, managed by the Arts Council Malta under the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, this substantial fund will directly support 77 distinct projects across Malta and Gozo. The financial backing targets crucial areas that keep the traditional celebrations alive and safe, including instrumental music training, the restoration of historical artifacts and archives, and administrative infrastructure. Additionally, a significant portion of the funds will be dedicated to upgrading safety measures in fireworks factories and creating or restoring the intricate street decorations that transform the islands each summer. The funding, the government said, recognises that the magic of the festival season does not happen overnight, but is rather the result of twelve months of unseen preparation, craftsmanship, and training. This investment...
