The Ministry for Social Policy, together with the Ministry for Education, is working on the Children’s Policy Framework 2024–2030. The aim is to further strengthen investment in the mental health of children and young people.
This initiative reflects a clear commitment to ensuring that children are heard, that their realities are understood, and that timely and responsible responses are made to support their mental health and overall well-being. It is in this spirit that a national study is underway to better understand the mental health challenges faced by children.
As part of this project, the QT Robot was introduced at the San Ġwann Primary School, marking the start of a pilot project that will continue to expand across the country. This robot will serve as a mascot and ambassador for children’s mental health and will deliver interactive presentations on the importance of mental well-being.
On Monday morning, a visit took place by Ministers Michael Falzon and Clifton Grima, during which they spoke with the children and explained the importance of mental health, empathy, and mutual support among children.
Minister Michael Falzon explained that the QT Robot does not in any way replace human interaction and will not be making diagnoses or providing counselling. “Today we are launching the first version of the mental health toolkit, which will guide discussions in the coming months so that, through contributions from children and professionals, we can arrive at a final and comprehensive version of the Mental Health Toolkit,” said Minister Michael Falzon.
Minister Clifton Grima stated, “Children’s mental health is a crucial foundation for their development, and therefore we must continue investing in educational environments that foster well-being, empathy, and resilience. This project is an important step toward building a system that truly understands and supports their needs, together with children and educators.”
