Cancer Support Services (CSS) is seeking some more good men and women who will stay the course even after their loved ones have recovered or passed on from cancer. President Carlyle Best, speaking at their 30th anniversary service at St James Parish Church yesterday, said they wanted people who will be committed to the cause and pour into others what they did for those who were close to them.  “I would like persons who join the organisation to don’t just come to receive assistance on behalf of others, but come and see how you can contribute, which is very important to this charity. That will continue the building of this charity and the more persons we can assist,” he said. Best acknowledged that dealing with cancer was never easy for many individuals, but noted that more committed members would expand the support and good work the current membership of over...

85 Lack of structure and strategic planning is a key factor behind the closure of many small businesses, according to organisers of the Pathway to Profit initiative. While acknowledging that financial constraints are a major challenge for entrepreneurs in starting and maintaining their businesses, Ashley Phillips-Kinch, co-coordinator and owner of Bijou Media, said a number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) also fail to adopt proper systems, instead operating informally rather than as structured entities. “I feel that as small business owners, we use that word ‘small’ lightly, and we use that to define ourselves when we should really be operating just like a corporate entity. We need structure. We need to know where and when and how to put things, and what we don’t do is think of that first,” she said. “We think it’s just me, or, you know, my family, involved in the business, and we...
