(CNS): Three men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Rocky’s Diamond Gallery on Seafarers Way, George Town, on Monday. The stick-up happened shortly before noon, just across the street from the harbour, where one cruise ship was in port. Two masked men entered the store, brandishing a baseball bat and what appeared to be a gun.
They smashed several display cases and removed jewellery. They then ran outside and got into a getaway vehicle. No shots were fired, and no one was injured during the incident.
The RCIPS said that officers quickly identified a vehicle matching the description of the one used by the robbers and began to follow it. One man fled the vehicle in the vicinity of Shedden Road and North Sound Road. The vehicle then travelled towards West Bay and was stopped by the police on Willie Farrington Drive. Two occupants, men aged 25 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
Police conducted searches in the area where the missing man had fled and recovered jewellery suspected to have been taken during the robbery. Police conducted further searches and recovered one handgun, suspected to have been used during the robbery.
Then on Tuesday, officers attended the Owen Roberts International Airport and arrested a third man, who was trying to leave the country, on suspicion of robbery in relation to the same incident. The 29-year-old from George Town remains in custody, along with his co-accused, as investigations continue.
Anyone who witnessed events on Seafarers Way or has information about this robbery is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222.
