A successful maritime rescue operation was carried out by the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) Coast Guard on Monday, 20 April 2026, following a distress call involving the Antigua and Barbuda–registered fishing vessel F/V Lady Medesha.
The SKNDF, in an official release, confirmed that its Coast Guard Base received an alert at approximately 1:37 p.m. from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) Coast Guard reporting that the vessel was experiencing difficulties about five nautical miles southeast of Nevis.
In response, the SKNDF Coast Guard rapidly coordinated a regional search and rescue operation and proceeded to the vessel’s last known position. Upon arrival, SKNDF personnel located the F/V Lady Medesha and carried out an immediate assessment of the situation at sea.
After determining the condition of the vessel, the SKNDF Coast Guard initiated towing procedures and safely escorted the boat to Charlestown, Nevis, where it was secured for inspection and repair work.
The SKNDF confirmed that all three persons on board were safely accounted for, with no injuries reported during the incident.
Officials from the SKNDF noted that the operation underscores the effectiveness of regional maritime cooperation and the strong working relationship between the SKNDF and the ABDF in ensuring safety across shared maritime zones.
The SKNDF Coast Guard further emphasized its continued dedication to safeguarding life and property while maintaining operational readiness alongside regional partners.
