Government figures indicate that roughly two-thirds of the measures outlined in Malta’s gender equality strategy have been completed since its launch in 2022.
According to official data, 66 out of 104 measures have been fully implemented, with further actions currently in progress. Key areas of focus include reducing inequalities in employment, pensions, and decision-making roles.
One persistent issue remains the gender pension gap, attributed largely to historically low female participation in the workforce. While increased female employment is expected to address this over time, the impact will be gradual.
Recent budget measures have included adjustments to pensions for widows and women with limited contribution records.
Despite reported progress, authorities acknowledge that gaps remain, particularly in achieving full equality in economic and political participation.
