Minister for the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS), Rollen Seleso, has described the completion of the multi-million dollar Gizo Youth Centre, Western Province as a major milestone for Western Province.
Speaking at the handover of the facility on Monday, Minister Seleso said the project reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening provincial governance while investing in the future of young people.
“This facility is more than just a building it is a tangible investment in our youth and in the future development of our nation,” he said.
Mr Seleso acknowledged the partnership between the Ministry of Women, Children, Youth and Family Affairs (MWCYFA) and the Western Provincial Government (WPG) in successfully delivering the project.
He said, such collaboration demonstrates how national policies can be effectively implemented at the provincial level.

“No nation can progress in today’s modern world without preparing its younger generation for the responsibilities of tomorrow,” he added.
The Minister highlighted that the Youth Centre will serve as a safe and inclusive space for young people, offering opportunities in skills training, entrepreneurship, sports, and cultural development.
He added that the facility, equipped with internet services and a conference room, will also support learning, workshops, and community programs while generating income to sustain its operations.
Mr Seleso said the project is also a testament to the growing capacity of the Western Provincial Government, which has successfully managed the planning, procurement, and implementation of the development.
“This achievement reflects years of capacity building under MPGIS and the Provincial Governance Strengthening Programme,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the successful delivery of the project will encourage more national ministries to entrust provincial governments with resources to implement key development projects.
“The Western Provincial Government has demonstrated accountability and capability in managing public resources, and this sets a strong example for other provinces,” Mr Seleso said.
