Police in Auki, Malaita Province, have arrested and charged a 26-year-old man for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman at a village in Auki on 25 February 2025.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa, said the victim, who is believe to drunk, was raped in her room while she was asleep.
According to Chief Superintendent Tafoa, the suspect creeped into the victim’s room, undressed and raped her without the victim’s consent.
He said the victim’s girlfriend witnessed the scene.
Chief Superintendent Tafoa said the victim was unaware of what happened but she realized something was wrong as in the morning she found out that she was undressed.
“It was the victim’s girlfriend who told her what had happened,” PPC Tafoa said.
The victim reported the matter to the Auki Police and the suspect was eventually arrested on 27 February 2025.
The suspect is being charged with rape Contrary to Section 136 (f) of the Amendment Sexual Act and is currently remanded at Auki Correctional Centre awaiting court appearance on a later date.
