Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on January 20 announced that it is mobilizing strong support to help Tanzania contain the Marburg virus disease (MVD) outbreak after the country confirmed one case and identified 25 suspected cases in the northwestern region of Kagera. To support the Tanzanian government’s efforts, the African Union’s public health agency is committing US$ 2 million to bolster immediate response measures, including deploying public health experts, strengthening diagnostics, and enhancing case management. Dodoma — Tanzania today confirmed an outbreak of Marburg virus disease in the northwestern Kagera region after one case tested positive for the virus following investigations and laboratory analysis of suspected cases of the disease. Monrovia — The Director General of the African Centers for Disease Control, Jean Kaseya, has said the center stands ready to support Tanzania and other countries in the region where suspected cases of the infectious Marburg Virus Disease have been identified.
