Customers from Xfinity Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile are experiencing significant delays activating their new Galaxy S25 Ultras, even though many were first in line to pre-order the device. The issue appears to stem from the carriers struggling to keep up with Samsung’s speedy shipping, leaving customers stuck with phones they can’t use right away.
Xfinity Mobile Delays Activation Until System Updates Are Complete
Xfinity Mobile users have taken to Reddit to express their frustration, reporting that their brand-new Galaxy S25 Ultras can’t be activated until February 5. That’s when the carrier is expected to complete the necessary system updates to support the device.
One Reddit user shared their disappointment, saying, “Xfinity Mobile says their systems will be updated to include the S25U by Feb 5th, at which time I can activate my device. I’m still not happy.” This was after the carrier initially gave them an even later activation date of February 7.
Metro by T-Mobile Customers Face Similar Issues
The problem isn’t limited to Xfinity. Metro by T-Mobile customers are also reporting difficulties activating their Galaxy S25 Ultras. Some users discovered that their current plans were flagged as “incompatible” with the new device. Metro then offered these customers the option to switch to a different plan, which some were unwilling to do.
One upset customer wrote, “I’m having the same issue with Metro as it says that my current plan is not compatible. It does seem to give me an option to switch to another plan that is supposedly compatible, but I think it might be that the network hasn’t been updated for this phone to work on.” They added that they have until February 14 to trade in their device but are frustrated by the delay.
A Possible Workaround for Metro Customers
Interestingly, one Metro customer found a workaround to bypass the activation issue. They suggested switching to desktop mode in the mobile browser when performing the activation process. After completing the steps on a separate phone, they were able to successfully activate their Galaxy S25 Ultra on Metro.
“What I did was go to the website through my other phone’s browser. At first, it gave me that same error about the plan not being compatible. I closed the page and reopened a new tab, changed the website to desktop mode, and redid the swap devices process. It let me through the second time, and I was able to switch to the S25 Ultra,” they explained.
The Role of eSIMs in the Activation Problems
Both Xfinity and Metro’s activation troubles seem to be tied to the use of eSIMs instead of traditional physical SIM cards. It appears that the carriers’ networks are not fully prepared to support Samsung’s newest flagship device, which officially goes on sale on February 7.
Waiting for a Response from Carriers
As of now, neither Xfinity Mobile nor Metro by T-Mobile has publicly acknowledged the issue or offered a solution. We’ve reached out to both carriers for clarification and will update with any new information.
