Assistant to the charge d’affaires of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Hussein al-Khatib, accompanied by the charge d’affaires of the Qatari embassy in Syria, conducted an inspection tour at the University Cardiac Surgery Hospital and the Damascus Hospital for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery in Damascus.
Dr. Al-Khatib stressed the importance of Qatar’s support to Syria and it help in alleviating the suffering of waiting for heart operations for children.
He pointed out that more than 100 catheterization operations will be performed at the University Cardiac Surgery Center for children and at the Damascus Hospital for Surgery and Cardiology for adults, thereby saving as many as possible.
For his part, the charge d’affaires of the Qatari embassy in Syria, Khalifa Abdullah Al Mahmoud al Sharif, confirmed that Qatar continues to send several medical convoys loaded with medical supplies, materials and dialysis devices.
He pointed out that a group of Qatari doctors are in Syria to perform operations for more than 100 patients. The coordinator of the medical convoys program, Dr. Azzedine Jaafar, also explained that the “medical convoys project” implemented by the Qatar Red Crescent in a number of countries around the world included qualitative operations. This project, which was previously implemented in northwestern Syria, is the first Qatari project in Damascus coordinated between the Qatar Health Foundation, the Syrian Ministry of Health and the Syrian Red Crescent.
He added that there are a lot of medical projects and convoys being formed to conduct complex and qualitative operations for patients in need, in addition to training medical staff and securing medical equipment and necessary devices in hospitals to conduct operations.
A Qatari medical team from Hamad Medical Corporation and Sidra Medicine Hospital, consisting of cardiac surgery specialists, arrived in Syria last Saturday to perform cardiac catheterization operations for children and adults, as part of the Qatari “medical caravans project”.
