Tragedy struck on the Number 79 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice yesterday when, at about 00:15 hrs, two motorcycles collided resulting in the deaths of the two riders and a pillion rider.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement, said the incident involved motorcycles CN 6641 owned and driven by Keishan Ramnauth, 18, a labourer of Lot 115 Number 60 Village, Corentyne Berbice and CP 3158 owned and driven by Ameer Subhan, a 21-year-old supervisor of Queensway Security Service and of Lot 122 ‘B’ Line Path Corentyne, Berbice. Ramnauth’s pillion rider was Adrian Inshan, 22, of Number 55 Village, Corentyne.
The GPF said enquiries disclosed that Ramnauth was proceeding south along the eastern lane at a fast rate when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with Subhan’s motorcycle which was proceeding north on the western lane.
As a result of the collision, the two motorcyclists and the pillion rider were flung off the motorcycles onto the road; they all sustained injuries to their bodies.
They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where the two motorcyclists were examined and pronounced dead on arrival. The pillion rider was admitted in an unconscious condition and transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for further attention but later succumbed to his injuries.
