FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has again failed to appear in court in a case where she is charged with abduction, due to reported ill-health.
This is in a case where Nawakwi is charged with abduction and threatening violence against farmers Feluna and Milton Hatembo.
Allegations are that between August 31, 2021 and September 1, 2022, Nawakwi, acting with other unknown people, threatened to kill Milton Hatembo and Pheluna Hatembo.Nawakwi is accused of uttering the words:
“I will kill you by chopping your head if you tell anyone whatever I discuss”.
It is also alleged that between the same dates, Nawakwi, jointly and while acting with unknown people, abducted the Hatembos from Choma to Lusaka with intent to cause them to be secretly confined against their wishes.
When the case last came up on January 14, 2025, the court was informed that the accused was admitted to Forest Park Specialised Hospital and later taken to University Teaching Hospitals.
The case was then adjourned to yesterday for continued trial, but Nawakwi’s lawyers informed the court that their client was still unwell.
Magistrate Amy Masoja-Chilangwa adjourned the case to March 17.
Last week, the 64-year-old politician was scheduled to appear before another magistrate, charged with two counts of seditious practices.
In this case, Nawakwi is reported to have linked Government to the alleged abduction of Emmanuel Banda, the former Petauke member of Parliament.
When the case was called last week, Nawakwi’s surety informed Lusaka magistrate Irene Wishimanga that the accused was not present because she was terminally ill…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
