Police in Auki, Malaita Province, have arrested and charged a 26-year-old man for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman at a village in Auki on 25 February 2025. Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa, said the victim, who is believe to drunk, was raped in her room while she was asleep. According to Chief Superintendent Tafoa, the suspect creeped into the victim’s room, undressed and raped her without the victim’s consent. He said the victim’s girlfriend witnessed the scene. Chief Superintendent Tafoa said the victim was unaware of what happened but she realized something was wrong as in the morning she found out that she was undressed. “It was the victim’s girlfriend who told her what had happened,” PPC Tafoa said. Several senior officials in South Sudan, including three leading politicians from the SPLM-IO party and a lieutenant general allied to Vice President Riek Machar, have been arrested amid signs of a coup aimed at one faction of the power-sharing government. South Sudan’s petroleum minister, Puot Kang Chol, was arrested at his home in Juba, the country’s capital, along with several family members and bodyguards, according to a statement released by the ministry’s press secretary. “The operation was conducted by personnel identified as members of the National Security Service,” the statement added. Mit den steigenden Temperaturen trocknen die Böden weiter aus, während immer mehr Menschen die Natur für Freizeitaktivitäten nutzen. „Gerade jetzt, wo der frische Austrieb noch fehlt und die Vegetation vielerorts trocken ist, kann schon ein kleiner Funke genügen, um Laub oder Gras zu entzünden“, betonte Andreas Gruber, Vorstand für Forstwirtschaft und Naturschutz der Österreichischen Bundesforste.
