  شدد الأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية أحمد أبو الغيط على أهمية الحفاظ على اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار في غزة بعد خمسة عشر شهرا من “حرب الإبادة الجماعية الإجرامية” الإسرائيلية على القطاع. وأكد أبو الغيط أن وقف إطلاق النار ليس الحل المستدام للقضية الفلسطينية وإنما حصول الشعب الفلسطيني على حقه في إقامة دولته المستقلة على حدود الرابع من يونيو عام 1967 وعاصمتها القدس الشرقية. وشدد الأمين على أن هذا حل الدولتين هو “الحل الدائم الكفيل بتحقيق الأمن والسلام للجميع” وأن إهدار الحق الفلسطيني هو تهديد ماثل لاستقرار الأمن والسلم الدوليين. جاء ذلك خلال كلمة الأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية في جلسة مجلس الأمن رفيعة المستوى الخاصة بالتعاون بين الجامعة العربية ومجلس الأمن برئاسة وزير الخارجية الجزائري أحمد عطاف الذي تشغل بلاده رئاسة مجلس الأمن الدولي لهذا الشهر. وحرص أبو الغيط خلال كلمته أمام مجلس الأمن على استعراض كافة القضايا العربية الرئيسية، متناولا مواقف الجامعة العربية وأولوياتها حيال كل قضية لا...

AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Thursday met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, on the sidelines of the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. DAMASCUS, Jan 24 — When Bashar al-Assad ruled Syria, merchants like Youssef Rajab kept much of their imported stock hidden for fear of arrest for breaking the law. But after an Islamist-led coalition toppled Assad in a lightning offensive last month, Rajab put previously banned foreign goods such as chocolate, biscuits and shampoo back on the shelf. Such products are now openly on sale in Damascus, and foreign currency is once again traded without fear. Under Assad, Syria was mired in corruption, under heavy economic sanctions, and in seemingly endless crisis. Foreign currency was in carefully controlled supply, and engaging in its trade or in the sale of banned goods could have meant a stay in one of the country’s notorious jails. “A day after the regime fell, I brought out all the foreign merchandise I’d been hiding and put it for sale, without having to worry,” Rajab told AFP....
