Only a small fraction of the legal fraternity is registered under the Fiji Law Society, says Attorney-General Graham Leung.
He told Fiji Law Society’s annual convention in Nadi last week that there were only 299 lawyers in the society.
Mr Leung said he believed this had weakened the collective voice and unity of the profession.
“While Fiji offers a vibrant legal landscape, the challenges faced by lawyers are multi-faceted and can significantly impact their practice,” he said.
Mr Leung said addressing these issues required a collaborative effort among legal professionals, government bodies and community organisations to foster a more resilient and equitable legal system.
The Attorney-General reminded the lawyers that they had to develop a culture that prioritised ethical practices, compassion and genuine service.
