Muscat – The Sultanate’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued a stringent warning to the public, advising them to refrain from purchasing Speedmax CF brand bicycles (specifically models R073 and R41) from both online sources and suppliers outside of the Sultanate of Oman. The directive comes following reports of a significant structural defect that poses a grave risk of injury to riders.
The fork steerer tube on these particular models (R073 and R41, generally from model years 2016–2024, often equipped with the V21 Aerostem) has been identified as being prone to cracking or breaking. When this structural failure occur, it can lead to the detachment of the cockpit assembly (stem and handlebar). The Authority highlights that such a failure, particularly after a harsh impact such as striking a deep pothole, could result in a fall and potentially serious injury to the cyclist.
The CPA’s action underscores its commitment to ensuring all products available to Omani consumers comply with essential health and safety standards. By specifically targeting online and non-domestic purchases, the Authority aims to prevent the introduction of these recalled, high-risk units into the local market.
Consumers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution when buying high-value, specialised items like bicycles via online platforms or importing them directly, and to always verify that products meet approved safety specifications.
