Muscat – Oman’s jiu-jitsu team delivered a stellar performance at the Jiu-Jitsu Kalba Beach – NO-GI 2024 in the UAE, held from November 16 to 18, securing four silver medals.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Abdullah bin Khamis al Farsi, national team coach, informed that the championship had around 300 participants from 22 countries and witnessed a high level of competition. “These medals come shortly after establishment of the Oman Martial Arts and Self-Defence Committee.”
Farsi said Oman’s 11-member contingent stood out, particularly in the children’s category of the competition which was recently introduced. The Omani jujitsukas who clinched medals were Nawaf Ahmed al Farsi, 14 years old, yellow belt; Al Wathiq bin Mohammad al Mashrafi, 10, grey belt; Ziad Tariq al Alawi, 9, white belt; and Ahmed Muhammad al Ghailani, 8, white belt.
“This is a remarkable achievement for our young team,” Farsi said. “It marks the beginning of a promising future for jiu-jitsu in Oman, encouraging more people to take up the sport under professional guidance.”
According to Farsi, the team’s success also brings greater responsibility and he emphasised the need to intensify efforts to train young talent, organise workshops and promote jiu-jitsu across the sultanate.
Farsi attributed the team’s success to its dedication and rigorous training. He underscored the importance of media support and international exposure, while noting that participation in global championships is crucial for players to gain experience and confidence.
Looking ahead, Farsi said the team is focused on preparing for upcoming international tournaments with the aim of raising Oman’s flag on the global stage.
